YB Dato’Sri Rohani Abdul Karim
MINISTRY OF WOMEN, FAMILY & SOCIETY (Minister)
YB Dato’ Sri Rohani Abdul Karim, the Minister of KPWKM shared, “According to the Fifth Malaysia Population Family Survey, (MPFS) 2014, out of 7644 respondents, 75.4% of them have had breast self-examination done, 64.5% have had clinical breast screening and only 19 percent have undergone mammogram. The response is not very impressive because there are still many women who are not aware about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. We have continuously developed initiatives in helping women combat breast cancer since 2007, which includes the implementation of the Mammogram Screening Subsidy Program organised by the National Population and Family Development Board (NPFDB). Since May 2007 until Jun 2017, a total of 337,524 mammograms were performed at the listed private mammogram centres.
This is one of the government initiatives to help women undergo Breast Cancer screening via a subsidised approach, to increase early detection of breast cancer and saving lives, thus reducing its overall cost of treatment as well as increasing the women’s awareness of breast health and the importance of early detection of breast cancer”
YB Dato’ Sri Rohani Abdul Karim hopes that WomenFest Malaysia will be a great platform to unite Malaysian women and further expose the importance of Breast cancer awareness.
